What Nigerian patients ask us most

No. The Abuja centre provides information, specialist opinions and travel coordination. No diagnosis, treatment or procedure takes place in Abuja — all medical care is delivered at Fortis hospitals in India.

Yes. Send your reports and a Fortis consultant will review them and write back with a treatment plan and a cost estimate, at no charge and with no obligation to proceed.

Through your bank, using Form A for medical remittance, supported by the hospital's invoice and the medical visa documents. We provide the full documentation pack and walk you through it.

Typically 5 to 10 working days from the Indian High Commission once you have the Fortis invitation letter, which we arrange.

Questions about specific treatments

Under Indian law, the donor for a foreign patient must normally be a close relative, with the relationship documented and certified. Every case is reviewed by the hospital’s authorisation committee. We never arrange paid or unrelated donors.

Typically 4 to 6 weeks for a kidney transplant and 6 to 8 weeks for a liver transplant, covering evaluation, approval, surgery and early recovery. Your coordinator confirms the plan after the specialist’s review.

Yes. Keep to your dialysis schedule in Nigeria. We plan travel dates around it, and dialysis can be arranged in India before surgery if needed.

A matched sibling bone marrow transplant is the only established cure. Whether it is suitable depends on the patient’s age, organ health and whether a sibling matches.

A haploidentical (half-matched) transplant from a parent or sibling may be possible. The haematologist will explain the options and the risks in your written opinion.

After a transplant the immune system rebuilds slowly, so patients stay near the hospital for close monitoring for around three months. We arrange nearby accommodation for the family.

The biopsy (histopathology) report, recent CT, MRI or PET-CT scans, and any treatment you have already had. Send whatever you have; the oncologist will say what else is needed.

Not always. Depending on the plan, some cycles can be given in Nigeria under guidance from your Fortis oncologist. Your written opinion will say what is possible.

Yes. Many families ask for a second opinion. Fortis pathologists can review your biopsy slides and blocks if you bring them.

Most patients can fly home once the surgeon confirms they are stable, usually two to four weeks after surgery. Your coordinator plans the return date with the surgeon.

Both, if you can. The written report is enough to start, but the neurosurgeon will want the actual images, on disc or by upload, before confirming a plan.

Often yes, either on the same day or a few days apart, if your heart and general health allow it. The surgeon decides after reviewing your reports.

Usually two to three weeks after surgery, once you are walking safely and the wound has been checked.

A recent ECG, echocardiogram and, if you have had one, the angiogram report and video. Blood tests and a list of current medicines also help.

Not necessarily. Many blockages and some valve problems can be treated by catheter. The cardiologist will recommend the least invasive option that suits your case.

It can cost more than the standard approach for the same operation. Your written estimate shows both where both are suitable, so you can choose.

No. The surgeon controls every movement from a console beside the patient. The system improves precision, visibility and reach.

Not necessarily. It depends on the cause and stage of kidney disease. A nephrologist reviews your creatinine, eGFR and ultrasound and tells you whether treatment, dialysis or transplant is appropriate.

Yes. We arrange dialysis sessions at or near the hospital for the length of your stay.

Usually up to two attendants can receive medical attendant visas. We include them in the hospital invitation letter and the accommodation booking.

Some heart defects are repaired in the first weeks or months of life. The paediatric cardiologist will advise on the right timing from your child’s echo report.

Yes. A hepatologist can review your viral load, liver function tests and scans, and advise on treatment and monitoring, much of which can continue in Nigeria.

For most laparoscopic operations, about a week after surgery once the surgeon has checked you. Larger operations need longer.
